Safe Church Registration
In striving to live out our Baptismal Covenant we are called to respect the dignity of every human being. As the people of God in the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon, we are committed to the safety of all God’s people. The Safe Church, Safe Communities training must be renewed every 3 years, and is offered online. Rest Eternal: Myrtle Carr
On October 9th at 10am, at St. Philip the Deacon Episcopal Church (120 NE Knott St.), the Sunday Eucharist will be offered in memory of Myrtle Carr. A light repast will be held at St. Philip the Deacon after the service.
Clothes Closet
Fall is coming and we’re building up the clothes closet in anticipation of cooler weather. All clean clothes in good repair are welcome, but we always have a particular need for shoes and new socks for adults. We currently open the closet for guests during the Saturday Deacon’s Table, but you can drop your donations off any time. Contact Vivian Childs if you have questions. [email protected]
St. Philip at Salt & Light Lutheran September 11th
On Sunday, September 11th, all members of St. Philip are invited to attend the 11am service at Salt & Light Lutheran Church where Rev’d Maria will preach and preside. Over the years of our involvement with the Leaven Land & Housing Coalition, we have developed a strong relationship with many members of Salt & Light. Presiding Bishop Michael Curry is coming to St. Philip and Trinity Cathedral
On Saturday, September 10th at 5pm, St. Philip with host the Presiding Bishop Michael Curry and Oregon Episcopalians of color for Evening Prayer and conversation. All persons-of-color in the diocese are invited to attend. The event is intended to center the voices and questions of people of color. We invite our white allies in attendance to listen. Arvoll Rae July 29, 1926 – July 14, 2022 Rest Eternal Grant, O Lord, Arvoll Rae. Arvoll Rae passed away on July 14th, 2022 of pancreatic cancer. He died in San Diego at the home of his daughter Dr. Anita Walton, and was cared for by her family including husband Robert Walton, grandson Robert Jr, his wife Callie and Arvoll’s great-granddaughter Ziva. ACTION: Supporting Homeless Services
Last week, faith-community members gathered to testify before City Hall, asking our commissioners to support a budget that prioritizes truly affordable housing and the support and wrap-around services that help our unhoused neighbors, family members and friends get and stay permanently housed. Members of our congregation submitted testimony on behalf of this shared action with the Leaven Land & Housing Coalition.
