Deadline: Special Rites During the Bishop’s Visitation

Deadline: Special Rites During the Bishop’s Visitation

On Sunday, September 8, 2024, Bishop Diana Akiyama will visit St. Philip. That day, she can celebrate baptisms, confirmations, receptions, or reaffirmations. If you or a family member wants to be baptized, reaffirmed, etc please let the office know no later than Sunday, July 14.

Do you have questions about the differences between these? https://ecwo.org/confirmation/

Candidates for baptism can be of any age. While older children and adults can speak for themselves at the Presentation and Examination of the Candidates, everyone being baptized needs to be sponsored by at least one baptized person.

Candidates for confirmation are adults who make a mature public affirmation of their faith, recommit themselves to the responsibilities of their baptism, and receive laying on of hands by a bishop.

Candidates for reception are adults who have been baptized and confirmed in another Christian church in historic succession and now want to be affiliated with the Episcopal Church.

Candidates for reaffirmation are confirmed Episcopalians who, for personal reasons, want to publicly reaffirm their baptismal vows to the bishop and their faith community.
