A few weeks ago we joined the Lutheran Synod for their Emanuel Action on Feb 23rd, Toward a Horizon of Repair. Their Reparations Team will be joining us at St. Philip on March 20th to worship, walk, and talk with us about what repair looks like. Here is a note from them:
A note from the Reparations Team of the Oregon (Lutheran) Synod:
We are looking forward to joining you for worship and the forum on March 20! We so much want to connect with the people and stories from the St. Philip the Deacon parish as we continue learning about the Emanuel Displacement in the 1960’s and 70’s. We, and an increasing number of Lutherans, recognize our complicity in the harm done by the Lutheran-affiliated hospital, and the benefit received through years of reduced-cost rent for our synod office space located on taken land. As we consider steps toward repair, we are open to more learning and wider relationships that may guide us. We’re grateful for the presence of St. Philip the Deacon members at our recent Emanuel Horizon Action on Feb 23rd, and look forward to worshipping with you and making some deeper connections on March 20th.
Finally, if you need to familiarize yourself with this history — and the demands and stories of the families impacted — peruse this story map and the associated report, “Reclamation Towards the Futurity of Central Albina: Dreamworld Urbanism” – a collaboration between the Emanuel Displaced Persons Association 2 (EDPA2) and PSU’s FutureLab.
