On March 21st after Morning Services, we will have a Lector Training for anyone interested in reading scripture when we gather to pray. If you have been reading for decades, or have never done it all, this training is for you (and required). Reading during our gathered prayer is a form of leading others in reflecting and inwardly digesting the stories of God’s people.
Lectors are a liturgical leader inviting people to hear something new, renewing, comforting, challenging, or discomfiting in God’s Word. The focus is on God, the Word, and what God is speaking to each of us. You are involving people in the ancient and forever-continuing story of God’s love for all creation.
Telling stories well takes understanding, practice, focus. During this training, we will read out loud, reflect on what worked well, and talk about ways we should be preparing to tell the stories of God’s people.
